Donte DiVincenzo (Wing, 21, 6’5", 200 lbs)

Statistical Profile

Strengths

DiVincenzo is an excellent shooter — shooting 35% from NBA range this season at Villanova. He’s a great multi level scorer, and was effective from all over the floor this season. He can also shoot off the dribble, expanding his usability beyond a simple catch-and-shoot guy. He’s excellent off dribble hand offs (82nd percentile) and effective as a spot up guy (71st percentile) His off the dribble shooting may be his most NBA ready skill especially due to a smooth form and repeatable mechanics. On 84 shots off the dribble this season, DiVincenzo finished in the 90th percentile scoring 1.06 points per possession.

DiVincenzo has great basketball IQ as well as plus athleticism and vertical explosion. Off two feet he is one of the best jumpers in the Draft. He can finish through contact, especially in transition, and draws fouls at a decently high rate for a perimeter player.

DiVincenzo can make plays for others and projects as someone who could develop into a tertiary (or possibly secondary) ball handler if he can be more comfortable in pick and roll situations since he is a very advanced passer. When he finished plays as the ball handler in pick-and-roll, he was remarkably efficient, finishing in the 97th percentile scoring 1.106 ppp on 13% of his scoring opportunities. He also is an excellent cutter showing plus feel and timing offensively.

Defensively, DiVincenzo is a solid team defender leveraging his IQ. He’s a good help defender with plus awareness and can rebound very well for his size due to his vertical explosiveness.

Weaknesses

DiVincenzo has poor length for an NBA wing (6'6" wingspan), making his 6'5" frame slightly concerning as a wing prospect. He doesn’t have much versatility on either end and will be confined to guarding twos for most of his career. He doesn’t have the lateral quickness to stick with NBA athletes on defense. He also doesn’t have great speed in the open court and struggles to recover when he’s beat on the ball. Offensively, he’s a good shooter but a streaky one, and was never particularly efficient at the foul line. He has a tendency to make mistakes as a ball handler and can be prone to turnovers.

Summary

There are questions about DiVincenzo’s fit in the NBA — is he a ball handler or a two guard, how does he match up against bigger wings, and is he fast enough to play at a high pace and get down the floor with the rest of his team? However, despite these valid question marks, he has NBA ready skills when it comes to his vertical explosiveness, his shooting both off the catch and off the dribble, his cutting ability and his playmaking/comfortability in ball screen situations. At the very least, he should come into the league as a backup combo guard who can stick shots and play with good awareness, and his ceiling will depend on his physical and athletic development.
